Our 6 must-sees on the island

N°1 :

The beach of Ruppione in Pietrosella : on the south shore of the Gulf of Ajaccio, after the peninsula of Isolella going towards the beach of Mare e Sole. Discover 600 meters of fine sand beach with its transparent water. Full view on the Sanguinaires Islands and the extraordinary sunsets of Corsica. A few coves border the beach of Ruppione to the north and south for a little more tranquility. The beach, suitable for family vacations, is supervised in summer, and swimming is gentle.

N°2 :

Walk around the Urbino pond: from the parking lot, reach the seashore and follow it northward for about 1.5 km to the level of an ancient grau of the pond, in the Pozzo Sale sector. At this point you can retrace your steps or continue north to the current grau (2.5 km round trip, about 1 hour). You will walk along a dune line and you will be able to observe the fishing techniques used in the pond: weirs of nets ending in fyke nets (town of departure and arrival: Ghisonaccia).

N°3 :

The Reserve of Scandola (West Corsica): a granite jewel from where the ospreys look down on you! Visiting Corsica without having seen the Scandola Reserve is like seeing Paris without having visited the Eiffel Tower! It is a natural reserve, both marine and terrestrial, listed as a Unesco World Heritage Site. By boat, you will be surprised by this mineral explosion of volcanic origin which contrasts with the turquoise water of the Mediterranean. Ospreys nesting on high rocky peaks jealously watch over this protected area. By the road between Piana and Porto, the Calanches of Piana unveil its red rocks cut with phantasmagorical forms resulting from an old volcano…

N°4 :

Museum “A Mimoria di u Vinu” in Luri : Since its introduction by the Greeks in 565 BC, Corsican viticulture has known an eventful history, until the end of the 20th century when it has resolutely taken the direction of quality. Corsica counts today 9 A.O.C. including 2 on the Cap Corse : Muscat du Cap Corse and Corse-Côteaux du Cap Corse . A Mimoria di u Vinu invites you to follow step by step the work of the vine to the wine of a wine grower of former days with initiation to the tasting.

.

N°5 :

Casabianca : This historical village is located at 580 m of altitude in the heart of the regional park of Corsica and you will discover a Saracen tower. At the St Antoine pass, at 680 m, are the ruins of the “Servites” convent. In this place of “La Consulta di a Casabianca”, Pascal Paoli was named “Babbu di a Patria”. At the beginning of the 19th century, the convent was burned by the conventional Salicetti.

.

N°6 :

The penitentiary of Coti-Chiavari (1855-1906) : The ruins of the penitentiary are located halfway between Verghia and Coti-Chiavari, 30 km south of Ajaccio, on a large plateau that has an exceptional view of the Gulf of Ajaccio, with a sweet scent of cysts and eucalyptus. Less than 10 minutes from the beaches of Mare e Sole and Verghia, you will take a trip back in time, walking towards the penitentiary... between ruins, dam and breathtaking view. The penitentiary of Coti-Chiavari had a main building for the detention and the center of the estate, with wine vats, a fodder barn, a powder magazine, a manure pit, a cemetery. In 1969 the penitentiary was destroyed for a large-scale project… a project that was abandoned and the place returned to its wild state.
